FIRST WEEK IN COLOGNE
4.3.2026
Miksu, Saga, and I visited a vocational school in Cologne. We had to take an hour-long tram before waiting in front of the school for our international guide, Mrs. Schwering. She led us to the class where we were supposed to meet; they were first and second-year design students. We were seated at different tables and told that we could move around if we wanted. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding, so we didn't actually get to move around and meet other students. I was quite nervous at first, but it all went well as time went on, and the students at my table were all really nice. We also brought some Finnish treats for the students to try, and they brought some German treats for us to try. The liquorice didn't go so well, but the Fazer chocolate I brought was very popular. The German sweets were nice, especially the small liquorice balls they had.
After talking with the students for a while, we held our PowerPoint introduction of ourselves, our hometowns, and what Eduko is like. Afterwards, the German students got their turn to show us PowerPoint presentations, which included introductions to the city and what to do here. Then came the time to host a little game, where the students got to guess ten true or false facts about Finland that we came up with. It went smoothly, and the class engaged well and was quite loud.
Overall, the whole day was very nice, and we're going to make some plans with some of the German students so they can show us around Cologne sometime.

My first day of work at the Pottery Art Café in Sültz! My day started at 14:30, so I had a nice amount of time to get things done in the morning, plus I didn't need to rush to leave for my work. I found my way to the Pottery Art Café pretty well; a worker came and opened a side door for me, and I was offered something to drink. When the day started, I got assigned to mix and refresh some crystal glazes, so they're nice and usable for the customers. It was quite scary at first, but the people were really nice, and I had a chill time mixing the paints, although I did get a small blister on my middle finger at the end of the day. I left at 18:30 and arrived home somewhere around 19:15. I was quite tired after the day, so I ate, showered, and went straight to bed.
The previous day, one of the Café employees notified me that there was going to be a strike of all public transport. I fortunately got the day off, since it was going to be hard for me to travel all the
way to Sültz from where our apartment is. Miksu, Saga, and I took the day calmly. We had fun exploring Nippes, and we went to a bigger store than the Aldi nearby. I went to bed quite early, since I had work the next day in the Pottery Art Café's center location.

Work at the center location was way more eventful than my day in Sültz. I arrived at 11:30 and introduced myself to the two workers. They were really nice, and we had great conversations during the day. I was given the responsibility of keeping the glazes filled, so I did that most of the day. I also served customers, washed dishes, and cleaned. Even though interns aren't allowed to touch the customers' ceramics, one of the workers taught me how to glaze them. It was quite nerve-wracking, so I didn't enjoy it too much.

Had another pleasant workday at the center location; not much to remark on.
