FOURTH AND LAST WEEK IN COLOGNE

Image
23.3.2026 I spent the morning calmly, before Miksu and I decided to visit Cologne's centre for the final time. I did some last-minute souvenir shopping and bought some nice things for myself. The time went by fast, and my afternoon was spent on the couch doing homework. I decided against going to the bar to listen to jazz, since it was pretty late already, and I was too tired to get going again. Overall, a nice day, but not much to write about. 24.3.2026 I had a bit of a lazy day, though I did visit the Botanical Garden, Flora, and the Ludwig Museum. I loved the botanical garden. There were so many types of plants and flowers I didn't even know existed, and the building itself was also very showy. I took a lot of photos just because, and for inspiration for my upcoming projects.  The Ludwig Museum was more underwhelming than I thought. Although I appreciate all forms of art, I'm more fond of paintings and drawings than installations. Though they have an interesting charm. ...

THIRD WEEK IN COLOGNE

Image
16.3.2026 Since today was my day off, I planned to make it an eventful one by exploring Nippes, Cologne's centre, and popping by a jazz event at a bar. I left the apartment at midday to walk around Nippes. I visited the paper store we had gone to before, and I bought souvenirs for others, fridge magnets, and keychains for myself. After that, I just walked around and popped into a few stores, but didn't find anything that I wanted to buy. Before heading back to the apartment, I enjoyed a latte at a nearby coffee shop I had planned to visit. It was a small but cozy store, and the latte was really good. I popped by a Rewe to get a quick lunch before finally heading home. I ate lunch and chatted with my friends till it was time to leave again.  Saga went back to work, and Miksu and I headed to do some shopping in Cologne's centre. We visited some shops we had previously checked out, as well as new ones we had planned to pop by. I had a great time and found more souvenirs. Sinc...

SECOND WEEK IN COLOGNE

Image
9.3.2026 Monday, my "weekend" started. It feels kind of strange to work on the weekends, since Miksu and Saga aren't. We just have to try to plan around our schedules to find free time to explore the city. We plan on going around museums and checking out Flora, a big botanical garden, in the last week, since it'll be the greenest then during our stay here. I didn't do much, just did some homework, drew, and took the day calmly.  10.3.2026 Same thing as yesterday, though I did my first load of laundry here. We were given instructions on a sheet on where our washing machine is located. Saga and I tried figuring the whole thing out, but we did a lot of fumbling with the whole ordeal. Firstly, we couldn't find laundry detergent, so I had to pop by our nearby Aldi. Secondly, there was some mysterious liquid in the washing machine's detergent department; it turns out there's a flaw with the drainage system. Lastly, when we finally got our clothes washed, we...

FIRST WEEK IN COLOGNE

4.3.2026 Miksu, Saga, and I visited a vocational school in Cologne. We had to take an hour-long tram before waiting in front of the school for our international guide, Mrs. Schwering. She led us to the class where we were supposed to meet; they were first and second-year design students. We were seated at different tables and told that we could move around if we wanted. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding, so we didn't actually get to move around and meet other students. I was quite nervous at first, but it all went well as time went on, and the students at my table were all really nice. We also brought some Finnish treats for the students to try, and they brought some German treats for us to try. The liquorice didn't go so well, but the Fazer chocolate I brought was very popular. The German sweets were nice, especially the small liquorice balls they had. After talking with the students for a while, we held our PowerPoint introduction of ourselves, our hometowns, and wh...

ARRIVING TO COLOGNE

Image
2.3.2026 I woke up at 2:30 am so I could have an hour to relax and get ready before having to leave home. We left at 3:30 am, and my dad drove me to Helsinki Airport. We said goodbye, and I went through the baggage check-in and security check with two of my fellow students and travel companions, Miksu and Saga. Our flight wasn't leaving for the next hour and a half, so we sat at a coffee shop, preparing our powerpoints for the visit to a vocational school in Cologne. The flight was less than two hours; it went by fast and was quite nice. The problems started with figuring out which train to take to get to Cologne's centre. We got our tickets, which had no information on the train we were supposed to take. So we asked some security/police folk just standing around on the side. They gave us faulty information and looked like they had no intent to actually help us. Thankfully, a very nice lady realized we were lost and helped us find the right train to get onto.  We met wit...

INTRODUCTION

Hello! My name is Sebastian, I am from Finland, and I am a second-year student at Vocational School Eduko. My field of study at Eduko is Vocational Qualification in Media and Visual Expression. While completing my vocational studies, I'm pursuing a double degree on the side, which means I'm also earning a matriculation examination certificate.  A little about myself: I'm a creative person, so I like all forms of art, as strange as some are. Mostly, I paint, draw, and do digital art, but sometimes I dabble with pottery and graphics. I enjoy photographing nature, going on walks, and working out from time to time. I also have a background in filming and editing, so I do a bit of that on the side, mostly editing. I'm a rather quiet person who likes to spend time by himself, but I also enjoy long discussions of strange topics. Smalltalk is my style too. I adapt well and try to make the best of everything. Welcome to my blog!
